1 cut above and some clean-up below and spread begins - in early VEG. It's not during the flower phase. The only thing I do in BLOOM is lollipop the lower leaves and LARF about 35 days in.

You are right, there are certain aspects that are very low tech - pipe cleaners and hand pump tanks - but there are top shelf things too. 2 HLG and 2 Timber grow lights come to mind.
Anyway - I have the rationale and we are all good.

I'm all for simple growing. First time I lost power for days running my f&d table and a couple of buckets with air stones. Was when I switched back to basics. Ran that table for years till then.

What is the height of your flower space from bottom of pots to light? I always assumed that was part of why you train the way you do. I'll take the answer offline, metric will be fine!
