showdown, I enter tonight as your reigning champion.
The title was earned through skill, determination...
...and absolutely not by strategically skipping hosting duties because I happened to know the trivia category.
Those allegations remain completely unsubstantiated.
Tonight I return to the host chair, where I fully expect the accusations of corruption to resume immediately.
As they should.

On this day in 1947, the Roswell Daily Record reported the recovery of a mysterious "flying disc."
Coincidence?
Probably.
Will tonight's trivia have something to do with strange visitors, mysterious sightings, and little green beings?

After what historians have described as "an extended statistical drought," @Shane Karmann has officially returned to the winner's circle.
Last week's Ice Cream Trivia, hosted by @curious2garden, ended with Shane hoisting the championship title after a performance that many experts believed was no longer mathematically possible.
Congratulations, Shane.
Enjoy it.
Because the defending champion is now officially the hunted.
Meanwhile @Milky Weed burst out to an early lead before mysteriously fading down the stretch.
Some say he melted under pressure.
Some say it was the ice cream theme.
We'll let the historians sort that one out.
As for me...
I'm back hosting tonight.
Which means order will be restored.
Will there be trivia?
Almost certainly.
Will there be a tiebreaker?
I've learned from Annie's groundbreaking research that these mythical questions are, in fact, real.
Will the game be rigged?
The Championship Committee has advised me to answer:
"No comment."

Last night's Wednesday Chat was another huge success, proving once again that sometimes the conversation is so good the trivia has to fight for airtime.
The pauses were few and far between, which meant I was constantly looking for openings to sneak in Moon Landing questions without committing the unforgivable crime of interrupting a perfectly good conversation.
We even ran past 10 o'clock, forcing me to rapid-fire the last couple of questions before Mission Control shut us down.
The scoring...
Well...
Let's just say NASA's math was considerably more accurate.
@Thurston was awarded an honorary pity point to start the evening while recovering from his knee surgery. He couldn't stay the whole night thanks to the pain meds, but it was awesome to see him pop in and say hello. Wishing you a speedy recovery, my friend!
@Shane Karmann blasted off with an early lead worthy of Apollo 11.
Then somewhere around Polar Gelato, the mission encountered... complications.
To make matters worse, I accidentally asked one question while only @curious2garden was actually looking at the screen.
Mission Control has accepted full responsibility for that one.
Meanwhile @DarkWeb delivered one of the most remarkable statistical performances in Wednesday Chat history.
At one point he had accumulated something like seven points...
...despite not correctly answering any questions.
Scientists are still trying to explain it.
The investigation remains ongoing.
@curious2garden put together another strong performance, but in the end...
It could've been the Willie Nelson...
It could've been the wine...
Whatever the reason, second place was the best she could manage.
And then...
Quietly...
Patiently...
Like a ninja fueled by snacks instead of stealth...
@laddyd emerged from the shadows to steal the victory from both Annie and Shane.
For once, I suspect heroic edible doses were not involved.
A huge welcome to @Hillbill, who joined us for Wednesday Chat for the first time. It was great seeing you and hopefully we'll see you back next week!

He did not pop in.
We're not mad.
