This is finally done

Epoxy hardens but definitely doesn't fully cure for a while. First try got messed up and I had to scrape it all out of the crack I needed to fill.....what a pita lol But it's done and I hope it's loved as much as I hated it nagh, I'm kidding it's really a beautiful piece

It had a strip of wood down the center first lol

My wife pointed it out and laughed and said she can't believe I didn't do it on purpose. Then my buddy saw it. Said he wants it without a strip down the middle......he's giving it to his wife for her birthday....


So I guess it was pecker wood and now pussy willow.....


But that one piece of firewood paid for the whole cord I got it in and burned last year plus. Firewood is the junk of the woods that doesn't usually go to a mill. It's also some of the stuff people pay good money for for high end furniture that's usually just veneer and very thin. But so much doesn't get used like that. I see so much really nice wood. And just scored a bunch of really nice maple from a property that is associated with a ski area here. I can't believe I didn't do this before.

If you look closer there's damage from the grapple that my buddy grabbed it with just at the waist.....kinda ironic.

Nope. Not in any way that would make sense. That was literally one piece of firewood. I just couldn't burn because I saw the grain. And it was beautiful.

Hardwoods are a prime commodity in Az. Pine and Cedar are prevalent only in certain mountainous areas but still not cheap. Everything else is brush, sand and rock. Some cottonwood in low lying areas and I think there are only two areas with natural aspen groves.

We're loosing all our big lumber mills around here. It's very surprising how hard it is to get good wood close. But be in the middle of all this beautiful wood. I have to ship it or spend a day going to get it.

It's funny. It was a project I started years ago. Ski and snowboard cores are laidup the same way as a cutting board.....then I was gonna build a pair.......the cores sat for 10 years......but it turned into a cutting board in the end. I still want to make a pair of skis lol I don't play guitar. Well...
