I couldn't lie all day and drink like a fish to qualify for management.
Pretty much a real life game of shoots and ladders.

I was helping out a friend that managed another department. I thought she was a friend (outside of work too) Well she was holding a grudge for a couple years over some petty bs. Then tried to get me on the do not rehire list.....lol dumb bitch I worked for much higher ups then her. Long story short she moved, I stayed lol

Skiing was fun till it wasn't.

I never got laid off. I worked my way up to management positions in several shops but I always felt like I was undercover. My sympathies were with the workers. I risked my job standing up for assholes many times. Bottom line most of them were sheep and wouldn't speak up for themselves. My new rule for humanity is, one third are turds.

The reward you get for being the go to person is you get to do it more.
I also guarantee when they need to lay you off, you ain't getting 2 weeks notice.
Yup. Your reward for exemplary work, is more work.

Saving grace is I'm at a small 20 person firm so we're kind of spared from the traditional corporate structure. I came into the office today (the one day I actually, sometimes go in) wearing my rolled up jeans & t-shirt. Four others decided to show up, then we all went and had lunch out.

I also worked steady 16 hour days for over a decade in the Film & TV business. The pound of flesh has been given.

Once I was considered a "grey beard" or subject matter expert it became more meeting oriented and was not to my liking.

Engineering work on rockets and manned space flight was easier than dealing with humans sometimes. All good now though since all I do is at-home construction and moving dirt around.

Only weekly meeting I attend now is tonight's chat!

All the angry reactions. Hope its not towards me :eyesmoke:

I helped her because the 2 people that she thought she could count on didn’t want to work for her and ditched her. I felt bad and stepped in to cover that season. On top of that, me and my buddy (a real friend) ran our own separate department. We just had it running like a top and coud step away most of the time.
