I was going to say the same thing. Don't see real wood floors much anymore.
The inlay marks where we tore down the walls of a little useless room that literally had 4 doors and a window. So the old floor had a big gap where the wall was. Weaving wood into an antique floor is hard, you have to source the old 'thin' stuff and have a real artisan. So I thought up the banded inlay scheme. My guy kind of messed it up but it looks nice.

It does seem a little strange that it isn't accentuating something like a fireplace but I understand the reason for installing it there.
Making a mystery for future owners lol. My house was built before 1868.

Probably My Fault
I think it's fitting for a house of the age. I've worked on some old houses and lived I one that was built in the 1890's.
I have pocket doors on the main floor. Pretty stately but if you pull one alllll the way out of the pocket and shine a light, there's wallpaper against.the end of the pocket, so the fancy pocket doors aren't original.
My town was founded on water power. First the sawmill until the forest was gone, then corn and grain. Our biggest employer is still MaltoMeal (Post Cereal now, actually)
