1st time making STS

I'll be making my first batch of STS spray this week using the small batch recipe posted by Laughing Grass. Aside from following the Directions on the post, is there any other recommendations, suggestions or tips ?

If you stick to that guide and the schedule you'll kill it. How many plants are you reversing and seeding. Because reversal pollen isn't as potent as natural pollen you want a ratio of about 1 reversed plant for every 4 seeded plants.

That's the decision I need to make. Can I store collected pollen for a short period doing this process? Or is it best to Pollinate Immediately?
I was going to reverse 2 different Strains (1each) then use that on 6 plants. If storing pollen is a good option, then I can do something different, or make additional plan adjustments.

Yes you can store feminized pollen the same as normal.

@Farmer's_Hat has a how-to for storing pollen.

Starting this thread to archive different ways to store pollen. Short term and long term storage.


1. Get yourself a sifter to pour the flowers through. Remove any pieces of flower that make it through with tweezers.
2. Get yourself a paper lunch bag and fill it a little bit with a good two handfuls of silica gel desiccant beads.
3. Put your sifted pollen into a folded sheet of paper, spreading out evenly to avoid clumps. Place this flat inside of the paper bag.
4. Seal up that paper bag in a ziplock baggie and check in 24 hours in case you need to break up any areas that have clumped...

Have you tried spraying single branche to pollinate a plant? I know it's not recommended, but I've read it also can work.
Any luck trying that process?

Personally no I haven't tried it. I've seen others do it, so I know it does work. My worry would be getting enough viable pollen from one branch to make a decent amount of seeds.

Yeah, I have been using short term stored regular non feminized pollen for years. And within the last 5 years I have been using pollen I stored long term in the fridge. I know 2yo pollen works, if stored right. Dry is what you want.....it's gotta be dry. I gotta look and see what I have, I'll try some of whatever's the oldest next time I do seeds. I store it in medicine bottles placed in a ziploc bag, with desiccant in the bag. That goes in a cardboard box in the fridge. I also store it mixed with dry, dry bread flour. I microwave the flour beforehand and obviously let cool down to make sure it's very dry before I add some to the pollen.

So.. from my failed STS run.. I did manage to get a very small amount of Skunk #1 Pollen.. less than a quarter teaspoon, so I mixed (overmixed) it with some flour and brushed on a few plants, and now I have some seeds forming! Hooray (but still unhappy with the results). I've got 3 strains "floured", Chillout Og - Afghani #1 - Snow Kuki(my own creation). Now the waiting game begins before a grow test.

I planned to start Reversing this past weekend, but with having to wait to clear out my garden starts, I may be starting this weekend or definitely early next week. I'm trying to be patient, I want to put my plants in the garden and finished hardening off now... just a few more days... just a few more days
