Rocket Souls led lab

Some of these shots look like 2009 all over again!
Rocket Science shit
Always interesting
Bill!:)

I know, it looks kinda ridiculous lol
But if you add blues and reds they can only make one color.

I absolutely love side by sides; you get to watch nice bud and learn something.

This is quite a nice paper, on flowering with uv sup and par range blurple for some effects on quality of end product.

Figured it out from pics, its Sekonic.

I'm a sucker for tech and I love the screen. Mine is pretty low tech.

Would you ever build and sell a light to ole milky weed?
Im hoping to bring something to market over time but it will be in the shape of DIY parts, easy enough for anyone to assemble. Problem is shipping the fully built light with all cabling and being sure it actually arrives still fully built and not in need of some touch ups. Milky, where are you located, stateside/euro?
For now im trying to get this tested out at local scene here in spain but it would be nice to get something up for testing here on the forum.

Just tried put the strips again yesterday as my previous tests were on the uncooperative Sosen driver. 4 strips on a ELG-300-H for about 75-80w each:
The fairly minimal sinking was holding up fine and they were just a bit warm to the touch. Need a proper lightmeter to check the lightlevels but should be similar to what i had with 6 on 320 driver.

i am stateside, and no problemo if it has to come in pieces im sure i could assemble it as long as no soldering required!

I can solder up the wiring for the strips and ship them but with time youre always going to have to do some soldering touchups as soldered connections tend to fail after a few years in the grow environment.

Have you ever tried soldering? Its piss easy, i spent years avoiding it only to kick my own ass when i tried and realized how easy it was, and how many things i missed out on building just cause i didnt want to solder. Soldering is a very very easy skill that opens up the possibility to fully custom your builds and channels with components you can get almost anywhere.

i did alittle soldering in high school in engineering class, your right its not too hateful. i guess i should have specified intense soldering lol

No intense soldering, soldering 12 strips is literally a 20 min job. If you add monos for an extra channel theres a bit more.
More than anything it is to be prepared to do touch ups when needed, to be able to fix things yourself.
Noticed on arrival that the alibubbers skimped on connectors which was supposed to go on😕

Its an easy job, ill leave some instructions for anyone wanting to try their hands on it:
1: pre-tin the solder pads - use standard soldering tin (flux included) and put the tin towards the pad. Heat it with hotpoint with the tin wire sandwiched between solder pad and hotpoint. Wait until it melts and creates a blob of tin.
Most people will instinctively melt the tin into a blob on the hotpoint and then try to get it to stick to the solderpad - this is wrong and wont give a nice strong connection. But when the tin melts while being in contact with the solderpad the flux does its job and makes it stick hard and well.
2 pre-tin your wire.
3 put the tinned wire in contact with the tinned solderpad and apply the hotpoint so the two melt together.
4 give the wore a slight pull once hardened to see if you got a solid connection.

In general i would always recommend sending the current thru the whole strip; using + and - poles of opposite ends.

Anyone feeling intimidated by this: you can always score some cheapo Aliexpress diodes to try out first but its a really easy learning process of about 15 mins to get proficient.
And after that you can just go on and set up your own uv/far red/whatever else you could think of.

this would be a very handy skill to have! lights are big $$$

Small update from the test grow, its been one week of flower.
First day

Today at one week

Left/680

Right/660
IMG20260506091628.webp

Development seems really fast, even for these fast flowering genetics. Possibly more tops on the 680 side but could just be how the clones went in, they weren't all completely even going in. Also right side dominated a bit by La Bella in front being a bit bigger and pure sativa stretchy.
Light intensity around 1200ppfd - i dont know, but to me that seems like a lot of light for after just one week, in the old grow i never saw those levels, even in midflower, but my buddy runs a tight ship and 1200 is the goal, though he might be taking it up a bit depending on how things go. Temps are 30.5C /RH 55% even though plants have increased transpiration and drinking from previous runs. 30 mins of uvb 285/310nm at midday.
EC: no idea, lol. My buddy doesnt check it anymore, hes very dialed in with Mega crop and RO and doesnt see the need - just look at the tips and up/down depending on how it looks. Real props in my book, i wouldnt be able to pull that off myself.

Edit: conferred with my buddy, extra tops are due to toppings and not light. Stem rubs give same smells between both sides comparing between clones of the same pheno.

Sorry for spamming this grow, we have bud set at 9 days from switch, indeed a few days quicker than the old lighting 💪
Intensity turned up to 1300 ppfd, plants still praying after 10-11 hours of light, drinking very heavily. Todays feedback from my buddy featured the word "Ferrari" which had me dancing to 90ies music all the way thru food prep this morning. Its a delight to hear these things from someone whos a long time grow guru of mine ❤️

Weekend became a grow stress test:
IMG-20260509-WA0000.webp

Intensity went up from 1300 to around 1500. Down a bit today after some slight tacoing of top leaves (though that could be uv aswell): back to 1300 from double intensity of most grows ive seen: 1500 ppfd with no bleaching. Grow still going Ferrari and my buddy is already talking about infrared leds for the 2.0 version for winter. Buds coming along nicely in 3 days only, its going fast.

Now were trying to dial in uvb levels and light temps. Max temp on the pcb is 39C over 30C ambient: this on the bars full of around 20w of extra leds and with a little bit of air movement. Temps are very encouraging for dialing up the uvb intensity, they need their heatsink/pcb temps of main light to be less than 45C or reduced lifetime. Currently looking at upping from 250 to 350mA over 4 strings so just under 90mA per led.
My buddy used to run 150mA but with 4 leds only (here 8x 285/310nm each) over a 1m2 instead of 1.44m2. 30 mins at midday currently.

2 week update from my buddys test grow:

Day 13 with some buds already connecting :) some tacoing from weekends stress test at 1500ppfd.

21 days, week 3 update.
Plants are at around 1300ppfd, 30C 50-55% rh.

La Bella has sorta taken over a lot of space on the right.

Looking great, fattening up and connecting. Getting some trichome rails already.

Left / right: looks fairly equal, hard to see and possibly placebo but maybe a bit more chunkiness on the left side. Its hard to judge as colors are slightly off with the spectrum being a bit purple. What do you think?
