I mixed 2 gallons water with two tablespoons of citric acid. If you do this rinse everything really well. If a plant wicks up citric acid in high concentrations it will crash your ph.

Sweet ... I'll give that a shoots.

Not too worried about any uptake from the drain tray. I have 1 1/4" spacers keeping the buckets well above the runoff.
