You don't fuck with the mountains.8 dead in the avalanche, one still missing. It was the size of a football field, they didn't have a chance.
Back in 2015, we were fortunate to witness and record two "little" avalanches falling roughty 4,000 feet from the north face of the 11,000 foot Mount Edith Cavell. MEC is located in Jasper National Park. We were standing nearly 3 kms from the falling snow when I recorded these and the sounds were like Niagara Falls - on steroids. The ground still shook that far away.
I cannot imagine the power and the terror of a football field sized avalanche.
I'm in process of renewing my passport. I know I'm not 6 feet tall, not anymore. But my last passport said it so I don't want to make them think too hard (it said my hair is brown not dirty white too, but hey)

The best part of the Olympics so far has to be the dog that got onto the cross country ski course. Give him/her a medal!
