What was the first strain you ever grew?

Adventures in ‘90’s Bagseed here also. Don’t think it grew much past Solo cup in size.

Eventually ‘graduated’ to buying seeds like a big boy mid to late ‘10’s. Think I did Northern Lights from the oh so reliable Crop King. Turned out exactly as expected (terrible).

What a long strange trip it’s been.

I have never seen a live plant until I moved here. A neighbor was closet growing and showed me what they had, " I want to try"!
So 3x3 Gorilla tent LED lighting 3.5 gallon buckets and a ton of reading, I was on my way.
DWC and still the only way I grow, Gelato was the strain from MSNL.

My first setup was almost exactly the same.

My first grow was in a cardboard box made into a tube with no bottom and a piece of plywood on top. Got a "1200 watt" blurple light from amaznsuks. Put a blanket on top to try and disguise the whole thing. I did not account for the stink that wafted across the neighborhood.
I didn't worry about ventilation because the box was more or less open to the elements. I knew I wouldn't be able to control the lighting so I went with auto flowers and ran the lights 20 hours a day. The plants took a month longer than advertised.

Bagseed, 1978, outdoors, supposedly Colombian Gold which today we know as Santa Marta Gold. I must have topped those things 20-30 times and they were still 8' tall at the end.

Bag seed seems to have been the starting point for a lot of growers. There was something exciting about not knowing exactly what you had and simply seeing whether the plant would make it all the way to harvest. My first attempt was nothing remarkable, but completing the full cycle was enough to get me interested in learning more not only about growing, but also about how the commercial side works through platforms like IndicaOnline

My first attempt was nothing special, but getting through the full cycle was enough to get me hooked on learning more.

Bag seed must be a lot more rare these days than in the misty past. It's easy to get how finding one in a sack triggers that itch to grow your own. I know I sprouted some in the last century but I don't think I was prepared to actually grow anything, I wasn't a gardener of any sort at the time, thinking a pot on a windowsill would fulfill my dreams! I first bought seeds from Amsterdam around 2007. I bought Serious Seeds lineup. White Russian, AK47, The Chronic. I wouldn't be interested in those strains today, I've grown a lot of legacy strains but Iove the newer gear.

in 6 years of smoking dispo pot I have found exactly 1 seed. It was in a bag of Harlequin.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yeah, bag seeds seem almost mythical now compared with years ago. I probably wouldn’t choose one over known genetics today, but that uncertainty was part of the fun when I first started. What newer strains have impressed you the most lately?

I am a gelato head. Everything in that lineage I have enjoyed immensely.
