New Car Thread

Question for the hive mind: what do you all think about certified preowned cars versus new?

CPO programs are not created equal. Like LG, better that somebody else takes that big initial price hit. Start with the car manufactures with the "best" program, then look for the type of veh. you want. Do your due diligence (BBB, social media reviews, state board that regulates dealership licensing, etc.) on the manufacturer program as well as dealership. Vehicle might pass all CPO "requirements" but why did previous owner trade with only 6000 miles on the car? That being said, I always bought new FWIW but I drove a demo for a lot of years as well and got good cost+ deals. 🚙

If you decide to go pre-owned make sure you take it to your mechanic unless you're a mechanic yourself have it checked out best advice I can offer
How would that work? 2 day test drive? What dealer would permit that? Only dealers within 25 miles are ford and chevy, we have to go 25 miles for any imports. The dealer warranties the preowned car, that's the point as opposed to a rando deal on Craigs List.

Yeah me and the wife he got sucked into one of them warranty deals as long as you keep the consumables changed at the dealership and do the oil change there it has a lifetime warranty it can be a good deal but if you live on the fixed income like I do it can be a real pain

I was able to use it to my advantage while negotiating. A used car is a used car but if it's certified pre-owned....well they certified it. I noticed the tires where most likely from a used tire place. I was told they were stock. The manufacturer date was years older than the jeep and were not of the right size or brand to be stock.

Go over everything with a close eye. I got a bunch of money off.
