I'm out here in the Mojave Desert (Lancaster, CA) and it was a real shocker. You just don't go outside during the hottest parts of the day. Also when you say something like that and people reply, "But it's a dry heat" I just want to punch them. After about 114 it's just brutal.

No. I should explain. She is an art historian at a liberal arts college, 30 years in. During that time she has taken courses with all the studio art profs except for photography and metalworking. She has taken one life drawing class and one painting class in her life. The studio profs are always amazed at her facility. In her field she specializes in Chinese ink painting. Here is a drawing she did, a self portrait blended with a photograph of Zhang Daqian, a famous early 20th century painter. The hanging scroll in the background is a peony by the artist she has written extensively on, Xu Wei. Obviously she's riffing on Dutch interior painting as well. The conceit that she appears to be holding the flower that is actually in the painting is derived from the original photograph as well.Just
