Mistakes, I have made a few

Mistakes, I have made a few. Ok more than a few. I have been growing off/on since the 70's. I have made so many mistakes I can't remember them all. From getting busted growing at a friends outdoor garden to having cops bust a closet grow. I have forgotten to turn lights or something back on. Not to mention bugs and all sorts of nastiness. Yep I have had my share of aphids, mites, beetles, grasshoppers, creepy crawly caterpillars, mold, PM, and wrong/too much nutrients.

So the advice I give is to monitor plants closely to allow you to quickly correct any issues. Also persevere, as there is always the next grow with new ideas how to improve. Every grower I have know ALWAYS improved on the next crop.

The bottom line is stoners forget things but are motivated to do better.

My biggest mistake, hmmm could be a long post.
Trying to reinvent the wheel would be a biggie.
We'll go with the gnat battle of '22. My worst mistake was using bagged soil for a grow. Specifically Black Gold and Miracle grow organic.
I noticed a few flyers right from the get go. By the time I realized I had a problem they had spread throughout the house to all the plants, pot plants as well as house plants. Sticky traps just illustrated how bad the problem was. 2 rounds of mosquito bits tea had little effect. Gnatrol same thing didn't work. Neem oil no good. I took to covering the soil with a big sticky trap. Little fuckers wouldn't give up.
Finally I saw a video on you tube about using garden pumice, 1/8 screened. I put a layer on top and that was the cure.
What I learned from this is commercial bagged soil is likely to have gnat larvae, don't use. Bottom water if possible. Those air pots are bad news, too many places for bugs to enter. If you have one gnat you have many. A preventative layer of Garden pumice will end them.
