Greetings from a DIY enthusiast in a sub-tropical region

Hi everyone,
I'm a lighting enthusiast from a high-temperature, high-humidity sub-tropical region. I've been lurking around GrowDolls for a while, and I must say the level of technical discussion here—especially from legends like Rocket Soul and Shane—is truly inspiring. For anyone who actually cares about the "guts" of a lamp, this place is a goldmine.
I’m currently starting my first serious DIY project: a 100W LED fixture with a manual spectrum tuning feature, focusing on the synergy between Samsung 301H and Osram 660nm/730nm. To be honest, I’m still a "blank sheet of paper" when it comes to deep optical physics, but I’m a dedicated builder who loves getting my hands dirty with a soldering iron.
My goal is to build something reliable and efficient that can withstand our local sweltering climate. I’m here to learn from your collective wisdom, soak up the data, and hopefully contribute my own build logs and thermal testing results as I progress.
Looking forward to learning from the best!
Best regards,

Welcome to GrowDolls. I would love to follow along with what you're building. Please start a journal.
We have evening chat every Wednesday at 8 PM Eastern and 5 PM Pacific. Hope to see you swing by sometime for our trivia games :)

Welcome to GD

Hey Aria, ask away :)

Some basic dets needed to advice:
- what size is your grow space? Including whats your desired hanging height of the fixture.
- what are you growing? Autos/Regs? Long flowering sativas? Full cycle or separate flower/vegg?

- What are your "sticking points"? Yield or quality or both? Budget? One warning, DIY is no longer a cost saver but still viable if you need something very specific, not on the market, or just want the satisfaction of knowing how to build (and repair) your light.

- Where are you located? This may be tricky cause everybody wants to be discrete, but in order to find you suppliers i need to know what market would ve easy to access. EU/US/china-alibaba?

Technical skills: can you or would you be able to learn how to hotpoint solder? For mono diodes this is the best, its not hard i self learned on the go. Other technical stuff would be drilling and working with aluminium. Edit: reread and realised that you know your way around the solder iron.

HOme work and things you can do as you set things up:
- wrap your head around what is serial and parallel electric connections.
- find as much stuff locally- especially some type of alu supplier so you dont have to order online alu. Internet or even yellow pages, usually your besst bet is using whoever local contractors use.
-figure out how to do climate control and vpd, at least as important as your light

Its weird to think that 10 years ago i was a newbie jjust like you, just wanting to build something for my friends led conversion of his grow, and now youre calling me a legend, lol.

Lets get building:)
