Harvest & Dry Quandary

Hey gang,

This is a bit of a journey, so bear with me.

I have six (sorry Canadian government) plants in the yard this year. With the seasons changing, I won’t have long to keep the plants out. Where this gets complicated is the drying. Well, kind of.

Refresher: I hang dry my weed off site at my Sister In Law’s house. They have the space, I don’t. I’m appreciative of their hospitality.

Wrinkle: They also have a high school senior daughter who has planned to have a Halloween shindig for her 100 closest friends at the house on Friday October 31st.

The quandary is, I will have to time when to chop based on when I can get them in the dry room to be done ahead of the party. Now, is there a possibility that the weather will hold and I delay chop until November first? Seems unlikely based on long range forecast.

My gut tells me the LG GG4 isn’t going to be be ready in the scenario above. I can maybe accommodate it in my pop up greenhouse, but only that one. It got huge and bushed out.

Pictures of each strain are labelled. These are not cherry picked, glam shots and are representative of the plant overall.

Sooo…..whatcha all think? I’ve really gotten myself into a pickle haven’t I?

Ahh the tribulations of a weed grower! If you can cover to protect from weather it may help or it may cause issues. Bed sheet or camping tent rain fly over the top without contacting the plants.

As DW and LG have stated the longer you can hold out the better. If you plan to put one in the greenhouse, I would do it sooner rather than later.

Nope. On heavy rain or wind days, I can get three in there. Generally the Curve Breaker, Cali Couture & Femme Fatale as they are compact enough to allow for it. On those days, the other three are spread out between the garage and under the large patio umbrella (GG4).

In doing a long range forecast check, I don't see frost over the next few weeks. Overnight lows around 9-11C / 46-50F which means cold, but not freezing. In this scenario, it becomes imperative to keep the rain off them.

I'm all for giving it a try as there is nothing more tragic than chopping early.

taht's what I was thinking. If you can keep them covered at night so they're not getting covered in dew you should be able to make November.
 
Yeah, just keep the dew off of them. If theres no frost you should be fine. Keep the dew off, keep as much air flow as possible. And if you need warmth under cover, if you can get water in there do it. As in a giant container....water holds heat. You can keep a greenhouse warmer through the night if there's a few 35 or 55gal drums of water in there. I know you don't have a greenhouse that size or 55 gallon drums, but you probably could get a few more days with a sheet and a couple 5 gallon buckets as long as you keep on that air exchange. Thats a fine line because too much new air displacing the heat will be a challenge.

Really appreciate the advice on the water. That’s a great idea.

I put a tarp over the greenhouse at night as cover from the laneway lights, so that’ll continue.

It actually looks like me might sidestep the full on frost. That said, I’ll still put a few in the greenhouse and garage to be safe.
